Sulawesi domestic shrimp, Caridina cf. parvidentata
The Sulawesi inland shrimp (Caridina pareparensis parvidentata), also known as the Malawa or algae shrimp, is a very robust, small dwarf shrimp from the island of Sulawesi. Depending on the source, adult shrimps only reach a size of about 1.5–2 cm, making them significantly smaller than many other Caridina species.
A major advantage of this species is its adaptability: it thrives in soft to hard water, tolerates pH values of approximately 6.5 to 8.0, and temperatures of around 20–30 °C. This makes it significantly easier to care for than many other Sulawesi shrimp species and also well-suited for beginners.
In aquariums, the Sulawesi inland shrimp is considered very peaceful and lively. It constantly grazes on surfaces and is an efficient algae eater, especially of soft green algae, leaf litter, and biofilms. Therefore, it is often used specifically for algae control.
