Can the Kallax cabinet be used as an aquarium stand?
Opinions on this question differ widely.
The fact is, a Kallax shelf can be used well for an aquarium if a few small things are taken into account.

Note: Ikea itself states that the shelf is not "suitable as an aquarium cabinet".
Use is always at your own risk.

Inspect the Kallax shelf carefully before using it. Is it intact everywhere? Was everything assembled correctly?
If that's the case and your choice is final, then you can get started.
Well, almost. I'd like to give you a few tips on how I proceed and what I pay attention to.

All edges and joints should be thinly sealed with aquarium silicone – especially the top surface, the inner edges of the compartments and the base area – so that splashing or condensation water cannot penetrate the interior.

Give your Kallax shelves feet! If something spills and collects underneath, it's quickly ruined. Water damage is inevitable, and the shelf's stability is compromised.
Using simple furniture feet ensures that water won't collect under the shelf. When maintaining the aquarium, especially during water changes, be careful of splashing water. Always wipe up any spills immediately.

A continuous cover plate (ideally 18–21 mm plywood, glued wood, etc.) is highly recommended, as it distributes the load evenly and protects the original surface from water.

For stability and additional torsional rigidity , ideally you should screw the Kallax to the wall ; alternatively, you can connect it laterally to adjacent Kallax shelves so that they brace each other.

With simple methods, the furniture remains dry, dimensionally stable, and your aquarium stands securely.
