Protein skimmers – also known as protein skimmers – are the heart of the filtration system in a saltwater aquarium. Using tiny air bubbles, they remove dissolved organic compounds (DOC), proteins, and pigments before they can be converted into nitrate and phosphate. The result: clearer water, more stable water parameters, and more oxygen for fish and other marine life.
