Seachem Purigen® is a high-performance, synthetic adsorbent resin that binds dissolved and undissolved organic substances extremely efficiently – significantly more powerfully than classic ion exchangers.
This allows nitrogenous waste materials to be captured early and visibly "polished" the water quality.
Suitable for fresh and salt water; trace elements are largely retained.
It increases the redox value and darkens from "blonde" to dark brown/black when depleted.
Application:
Place in a fine filter media bag (≤180 µm, e.g. Seachem The Bag™) and place in a highly flowed area of the filter (pot/backpack/trickle filter).
Rinse before use.
100 ml is sufficient for approximately 400 liters of aquarium water.
Exhaustion is recognizable by the distinct darkening of the skin.
Regeneration (according to the manufacturer):
- Soak for 24 hours in a 1:1 solution of water and uncolored, unscented household bleach (8.25% NaOCl) .
- Rinse thoroughly, then soak for 8 hours in water with 4 tablespoons of Seachem Prime® per cup (~240 ml) (or equivalent dechlorinator); rinse well again.
-
Freshwater only: soak for an additional 4 hours in buffered water (e.g., Neutral Regulator®/Discus Buffer®). Do not reuse if a chlorine/bleach odor remains.
Available sizes: 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, 1 liter
