Salvinia auriculata is a fast-growing floating fern that naturally "slows down" your aquarium: It absorbs excess nutrients, dampens harsh light, and creates a calm surface with plenty of hiding and grazing areas. Shrimp, juvenile fish, and labyrinth fish particularly benefit from the shady areas and the fine structure between the plant parts.

Visually, Salvinia forms dense to loose carpets of velvety, water-repellent leaves. This not only makes it decorative but also practical: It can help reduce algae pressure by "intercepting" nutrients and light.

To keep it looking good, it should be thinned out regularly – this way it always appears fresh and allows enough light to pass through for plants underneath.
