Lava mulch is the ideal all-rounder for aquascaping and planted aquariums.
It is suitable as a base layer under soil, for building hills and terraces, as decorative scatter gravel and – in a net bag – as a biological filter medium.

The open structure offers an enormous surface area for beneficial bacteria and promotes the flow of water through the soil.

The volcanic rock is generally pH and KH neutral, plant and shrimp friendly, and ideal for Iwagumi, Ryuboku or mixed layouts.

• Substructure: Spread 2–5 cm of lava mulch, optionally cover with fleece, then add soil/substrate.
• Hills/terraces: Use mulch as filling material, then add 3-5 cm of soil on top.
• Filter medium: Place in a mesh bag in the aquarium or in an external/mat filter. Can also be added loose to the filter.
• Rinse thoroughly before use (stone dust). Initial cloudiness is normal.
• Check natural edges; for very sensitive bottom-dwelling fish, discard any coarse pieces.
