An ozonizer generates O₃, which oxidizes dissolved organic substances, yellowing agents, and germs in the water. This reduces odors, makes the water crystal clear, and increases the redox potential – thus supporting biological filtration.

Ozone oxidizes the cell walls of bacteria, fungi, and single-celled parasites (in open water). It does not sterilize the entire tank, but it noticeably reduces the germ count.
